Window shopping

It's hard to reconcile a cerebral, thoughtful life with a love of fashion.

These days I look through magazines and try to see things purely from a design perspective: the colours, the photography, the styling, the beauty of the model and of course, the craft of the fashion designer.

Somehow this keeps things academic, and I don't get the urge to own the stuff.

That they all come together in a beautiful image is no accident. It is a tribute to the talented people who work in fashion that they manage to seduce us so thoroughly and sell us our dreams.

I also stay away from shops. The merry roundabout of fashion is a much easier ride if you never actually get on.
